2 Days Rwanda Chimpanzee trekking safari

This 2 day Rwanda Chimpanzee trekking safari take you to Nyungwe forest national park and gives you an experience of Rwanda like no other. You will get to drive to the countryside and see more of Rwanda on this 6 hour journey while you transfer from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest. This is an alternative short tour to the 2 day Rwanda gorilla trekking safari for those on business trip and would like to see more of Rwanda. You have will have a short stopover at the ethnographic museum of Rwanda to learn more about the culture and history of the Rwandan people. You will soon be welcomed by the due from the dense Nyungwe forest which is one of the remaining expanse of forest cover in Africa as you drive on the winding roads leading you to your hotel near Nyungwe forest. You will take on the canopy walk after your chimp trekking experience before leaving for Kigali.

Itinerary Summary

Day 1: Drive from Kigali to the beautiful Nyungwe forest

This morning we depart Kigali for a 2 day chimpanzee trekking safari in Nyungwe forest national park. There is an optional stopover in  Huye at the ethnographic museum formerly the national museum of Rwanda – You will then have lunch an proceed to the park. In the afternoon, you will take on the canopy walk in Nyungwe forest. The drive to Nyungwe forest is rewarding with views several hills, Lake Kivu and Kibira national park in Burundi. Journey time –  6 hours, Meal plan – Lunch & Dinner

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe forest national park

You will have an early morning breakfast and your driver guide will pick you up and transfer you to the briefing point at the Uwinka visitors center in Nyungwe forest before you can start your chimpanzee trekking.  The forest is rich in botanical diversity hosting over 200 species of trees and flowering plants and about 300 bird species.
The forest is also home to 13 species of primates including Olive baboons, L’Hoest’s monkeys, Ruwenzori colobus, Vervet monkeys, silver monkey, Grey-cheeked manga-bey, red-tailed monkey etc.  You will most likely sight some of these forest inhabitants on your chimpanzee trekking.
After receiving a briefing and depending  on the number of people present for the chimp trek you will be divided into two groups. One will track starting at he Uwinka center and another starting at Cyamudongo. Your driver guide will have to transfer you to the starting point. Your range guide will be in communication with the trackers who live early morning to locate where the chimpanzee nested the previous night. You are allowed to stay with the chimps for only 1 hour after locating them, photography is allowed but be reminded that the flash is prohibited.  Meal plan – Breakfast and Lunch

Best Time to Visit

The best wildlife viewing months in Uganda and Rwanda are during the Dry seasons from June to August and December to February. Primate walks in the forest are a big part of any safari in Rwanda. The habitat of rainforests is, by default, very wet, and one can’t avoid rain completely.

How to Obtain Tourist Entry Visa

The most easier way of getting a visa to Uganda is by purchasing it at the entry point, Entebbe Airport or any border station. This is very possible for tourists. All you need to do is pay USD 50, fill in the application form with passport dates and information. The visa fee of USD 50 usually runs for 90 days.
